Exhibition at Art Ventures Gallery
I am delighted to announce the opening of Biophilia – Painting with Light a new exhibition of my camera- lens- and computer-free photographs at Art Ventures Gallery, 888 Santa Cruz Avenue, Menlo Park, California. Following exhibition of these works in Vancouver, Palm Desert, Santa Fe, Maintz Germany, Boca Raton, Plymouth New Zealand, and Denver, the exhibit opens Saturday March 2 from 4-6pm and includes significant works from the last twenty years.
“Biophilia” is defined as the love of life and of living systems, and is the source of my inspiration. My art is designed to bring the viewer into a more intimate relationship with the life that surrounds us and has been described as “a bizarre union of Dr. Frankenstein and Georgia O'Keeffe."
My personal biophilia inspired me to work in the environmental community providing photography over several decades for Sempervirens Fund and the Peninsula Open Space Trust. The two organizations have collectively preserved 110,000 acres of land in the San Francisco Bay Area, and have made an immense contribution to the quality of life here on the Peninsula.
Special events during the 6-week exhibit include a screening of the 2002 “Ansel Adams: A Documentary Film” that captures the life and spirit of America’s most important photographer-conservationist. The movie is open to the public at no charge on Thursday, March 14, at 6:30 PM.
The gallery will also host a concurrent 3-day exhibit of Ansel Adams’ Portfolio Four: What Majestic Word March 29–31. This spectacular portfolio of original prints will be auctioned in April by Christies Auction House of New York to benefit Sempervirens Fund, California’s oldest land trust for whom I have worked since 1983. Both Ansel and I were honored to serve on the advisory board for Sempervirens Fund.
