Triptychs

(1986-1999)

In the pre-digital days of photography, we had restrictive limits to the size of traditional silver prints. Having made commercial murals as large as 8x40 feet in the 1970’s with emerging digital technology, this limitation was a source of frustration, as many of my images demanded scale. To answer this challenge, I made a negative holder that travels on tracks so I can print small sections from a single negative on multiple sheets of large silver-gelatin paper in sequence and frame them as a three-panel triptych. Challenge met!
